Paris Olympics 2024: Live blog of day five of Games action as triathlon action gets underway
It’s day five of the Paris Olympic Games and athletes are braving the river Seine as the first triathlons get underway.
Follow all the action in our live blog.
We’re back underway
Clare Wheeler looks set to come on for the second half. It’s a like-for-like change with Kyra Cooney-Cross.
That change means Australia are likely to stick with five at the back, but they do need to part with the low block they employed for the first half.
Aus 0, USA 1
HALF TIME
America have been clearly the better side through the opening half and are the rightful leaders.
A Trinity Rodman strike from a set piece is the difference between the two sides.
Alexei Popyrin hanging tough with Zverev
He’s up 5-4 in the first set and was up 0-30 but it’s back at 30-30 and the German takes the set. It’s 5-5.
Goal stands
After a yellow card for the Matildas coach and a lengthy break for VAR delays, the goal stands and America have the lead 1-0.
YELLOW CARD
A frustrated Tony Gustavsson is shown a yellow card over a VAR discrepancy for the goal scored by America.
America take the lead
Another set piece proves the Matildas Achilles heal, with Trinity Rodman pouncing on a loose ball in the box following an inswinging corner to give America the lead.
Arnold keeps out America again
Arnold has produced a sensational save to keep America goalless after parrying a strong header over the bar.
A superb reaction save to keep the Aussies in it.
Arnold save
A superb Matildas counter-attack came to an abrupt end by America left back Crystal Dunn, who then went down the other end with a crunching shot that was met by a strong hand from Arnold.
INJURY
Kailtin Torpey has had a rough introduction to her first game in the strating XI, helped from the field by trainers after she was involved in an off-the-ball collission with America’s Trinity Rodman.
However, she was able to return to the field.
Fowler fires first chance for Matildas
Having been under siege through the opening 25 minutes, Mary Fowler nearly scored a brilliant goal against the run of play but blew her shot less than a metre wide of the far post.
