Paris Olympics 2024: Recap day six of Games as Aussies strike gold again in the pool
It was another action-packed day at the Paris Olympics, with Australia making a huge splash in the pool and on the podium. RECAP all the action from day six.
AUSSIES WIN!!!
Australia has claimed GOLD in the 4x200m freestyle final.
Mollie O’Callaghan, Lani Pallister, Brianna Throssell and Ariarne Titmus have done it in 7:38.08 - just shy of the world record.
CONGRATS GIRLS!!!!
Clutch!
Wilson hits the two-pointer, and the Aussies are three points away from their second win in the 3x3 basketball.
WA’s Maley has been great on defence. Wilson has nine points.
Falling away
The steamy conditions are proving too much for the Aussies in the race walk.
The trio have fallen off the pace and will need some serious hustle to get near a medal.
Tinray is the closest.
Tight contest
Australia have already accrued four fouls early here and are one of the leading teams for giving them away.
However, their physical presence is helping them score on the inside and maintain a one-point lead.
3x3 Basketball time
The Aussie girls are up against China in the 3x3 Basketball.
They have a slender lead 3-1 with WA’s Maley on the board.
Pacing themselves
The three Aussies are playing it smart and pacing themselves towards the front of the pack.
No one has surged ahead, and there likely won’t be any moves until the second half of the race.
Underway!
After a delay for thunderstorms the 20km men’s race walk is on.
They will do 20 1km laps around and under the Eiffel Tower, with the temperature sitting around 22 degrees.
The humidity is 90 per cent.
Racers must have a foot in contact with the ground at all times.
The tale of the walk
The Aussies have three competitors in the men’s race walk.
Rhydian Cowley ranked 20, Kyle Swan ranked 22, and Declan Tingay ranked 11.
All three are a shot at a medal, with Tingay the most likely having performed well at prior Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
The race is do to start at 2pm and will last roughly 90 minutes with the women’s event to come after.
Welcome
Day six was set to be the earliest start to competition yet, but bad weather has delayed the start of the 20km race walk.
It is windy and wet but it appears the rain is stopped and competition is set to start at 2pm WST.
