Opals keep their Olympics alive

A clumsy Opals side have done enough to keep their Olympics campaign alive, defeating a fast-finishing Canada by five points.

Both desperate for a victory in their second match, the Opals applied the clamps to their opponents while discovering their shooting rhythm in the second half to power to a 70-65 win.

Turnovers were costly to the Aussies in the first half but WA’s Sami Whitcomb was sublime with a game-high 19 points, while Marianna Tolo, Cayla George and Steph Talbot were consistent contributors with 11 points each.

They will now turn their attention to a huge clash with host nation France early Monday morning.
