Two people have been rescued from floodwaters as heavy rain hits southeast Queensland.

A woman in her 60s became trapped at the intersection of the Burnett and Isis highways in Ban Ban Springs, northwest of the Sunshine Coast, about 7pm on Tuesday.

She was uninjured but was taken to Biggenden Hospital as a precaution.

A man in his 20s was driving on Chevallum Rd in Palmwoods in the western Sunshine Coast hinterland when he got caught about 10pm.

He did not need to be taken to hospital.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a flood watch for “coastal and adjacent catchments” from Tweed Heads on the NSW border to Shoalwater Bay on the Capricorn Coast.

“An upper trough extends over Queensland enhancing showers and thunderstorms,” the bureau said.

“Catchments within the flood watch area are moderately dry but beginning to wet up after rainfall in coastal areas over the last few days.

“Significant uncertainty still remains in the timing and location of the rainfall, although the coast and adjacent ranges are most likely to see the heaviest falls.

“Localised river and creek level rises and flash flooding are likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall, with isolated minor to moderate riverine flooding possible.

“Due to the localised nature of the heavier falls, at this stage, it is not possible to be more specific about the areas of highest flood risk.”

Conditions are expected to ease from Thursday.
