Cricket: Day 1 in Adelaide had no shortage of talking points - so what will Day 2 bring?

Australia resume at 8-326, but it could have been a better position for England had a DRS error not gone against them to help Alex Carey notch a ton.

The tourists will be looking to wrap up two quick wickets and then bat for a long chunk of time - in forecast 37C heat - to put the pressure back on the home side.

Relive the day in our blog below!

Smith survives amid more snicko controversy!

Cummins continues with the short ball plan to Smith

SIX! Smith doesn’t back down and anils the pull over the rope just behind square.

Almost gone next ball as the snorter catches the glove and it loops to Kahwaja at slip, but he’s not confident it carried.

Replays show it’s indeed bounced just short.

In fact third umpire has decided it’s come off the helmet despite it clearly coming off the glove and now there’s a concussion check. Farcical stuff.

43rd Over - ENG 5-143

Green continues.

He’s trying to temp Stokes into a drive but he’s not taking it on for now.

Short ball and Stokes thinks about it then pulls out of the shot.

A maiden

42nd Over - ENG 5-143

FOUR! Driven hard and gets the outside edge, but there’s no third slip as it runs to the boundary.

A stifled appeal as Smith takes on the hook and the ball passes the gloves, Cummins overstepped anyway.

SHOT! Cummins goes too full and Stokes ends a run of 27 straight dot balls with a lovely cover drive.

Short again and Stokes pulls for one.

41st Over - ENG 5-132

Green continues after his impressive spell before tea.

Hint of reverse as he angles into Stokes.

Plays out a maiden

40th Over - ENG 5-132

Short outside off to start and left alone by Smith.

Angled into the stumps and defended down the pitch.

EDGED! But didn’t carry to second slip who is along way up

We’re back

Stokes and Smith with a mountain of work to do.

Stokes won’t throw it away but can the rest hang with him?

Cummins to bowl after tea

TEA - ENGLAND 5-132

That Brook wicket just before tea keeps Australia firmly in control of this Test match.

Cummins got Root early but Brook and Stokes dug in and looked largely untrobled putting o a 50 run partnership.

But the introduction of Green was a masterstroke as he found his length straight away to get Brook and could of had Smith had Inglis judged his dive better.

Once again it falls on captain Stokes to drag Egnland back.

39th Over - ENG 5-132

Green to bowl the last before tea.

CHANCE! Smith edges through gully but with Green bowling, Inglis is there and miss judges the dive as it goes past him for four.

Green moves one in and Stokes is very late to leave it as it just passes the stumps.

Wider off the last and Stokes survives

38th Over - ENG 5-127

It’s been a great team effort from Australia so far to keep it tight on a pitch not doing much and still produce the occasional worldie.

Stokes with it all to do plays out a maiden to Lyon

37th Over - ENG 5-127

Under pressure Jamie Smith to the crease.

He’s beaten by a bueaty fourth ball almost a carbon copy of the Brook wicket but no edge this time.
