Smith makes cut for medal sniff
Australian trap shooter Penny Smith has made the final five by the skin of her teeth with a clutch final shot qualify.
After a red-hot start, Smith struggled at the back end of the round by held her nerve with a dead-eye final shot to make the final round.
She qualified with 20/25 and is tied for silver at the beginning of the second round in a tighlty-contested pack.

She has missed just one of her first 14 shots.

Penny Smith is currently fourth through the opening 10 shots of the women’s trap final, hitting nine targets in a tightly-packed field.
Disaster for Martin as gold medal hope crashes out
Logan Martin flew high but couldn’t stick the landing as Australia’s BMX champion couldn’t defend his Tokyo title with crashes bringing an end to his gold medal hopes.
Martin bows out of medal contention
Australian BMX medal fancy Logan Martin’s quest for back-to-back Olympic gold medals is over after failing to finish his final run in the men’s park freestyle final.
Leaving it all out on the arena, Martin executed a number of incredible stunts before a lack of speed proved his undoing.
Clipping the lip of a ramp on the dismount, Martin lost control on the descent and planted his foot on the ground, bringing his run and medal chances to an abrupt end.
WA shot-stopper stings the Dutch
A pair clutch saves from WA goal keeper Genevieve Longman has helped the Stingers to victory after a gripping pentalty shoot-out that seemed to go on for an eternity.
Lognman fended off shots from Netherlands’ Lola Moolhuijzen and Sabrina van der Sloot to seal a 8-7 (7-7) triumph.

A last gasp effort from Netherlands’ Bente Rogge equalised Australia at 7-7 with less than a minute on the clock.
The two sides will now enter a penalty shoot-out and if Australia win they will firm a top two spot in Pool A.
Punishing Parker’s ‘dangerous’ gender call
Caitlin Parker believes the Olympics’ approval of two boxers who had failed gender eligibility tests is “incredibly dangerous” ahead of a potential showdown with one of her teammates in Paris.
The heavy-hitter dominated her round of 16 bout against Mexico’s Vanessa Ortiz, prgressing through to thre quarter finals with a 5-0 victory.
Martin crashes but has one last chance
Aussie BMX star Logan Martin recovered from an early slip in his opening run before crashing out moments later to post first round-score of 64.40.
Martin has another chance in round two to post a gold medal-worthy score.
Hometown hero crashes
French medal hope Anthony Jeanjean has suffered a heavy fall in his first men’s BMX park freestyle run, in front of a boisterous but dissapointed home crowd.
